Fallout TV Series Review

2024 Fallout TV series premiering Amazon Prime Video, emerges as a riveting and electrifying addition to the world of television entertainment and a nice addition to the overall Fallout universe. This post-apocalyptic series plunges viewers into a mesmerizing dystopian landscape, blending suspense, action, and compelling storytelling to create an unforgettable viewing experience. For fans and non fans of the Fallout games alike.

The most striking aspect of Fallout is how they properly adapted elements from the Fallout video games into live action. Cleverly taking place after the games, means they weren’t breaking any already established Fallout canon, we fan of the games has come to love. Introducing the audiences to three very different protagonists from familiar factions of the Fallout universe, each with their own complexities and motivations. Slowly intertwining each character story into one overall plot. All while staying true to the premise that Vault-Tec are still the true antagonist of the Fallout universe. Which You would've come to learn from playing the video games. But it’s a mind-blowing revelation for those, who's just watching the show. A nice touch to get everyone who hasn’t played games caught up. The Overall story in the Fallout TV series is certainly a breath of fresh air in already long-established universe.

That breath of fresh air is partly due to them primarily focusing on characters that would have been NPC in the games. Rather than the traditional Vault dweller leaving the vault and becoming a hero story cliche. Walton Goggins role as The Ghoul, a Bounty Hunter who was a man from the pre-war-era that have survived in the Wasteland for over 200 years as a Ghoul. Followed by his pre-war character in flashbacks as Cooper Howard, a traditional family man, actor turned into a corporate icon. I still find it amusing than they managed to throw in the origins of Fallout Vault Boy into the story telling.

The other main protagonists’ roles were also very well portrayed. As they did help break the tension and help tone down western cowboy flick and military aspect of the Brotherhood of Steel in a way unexpectedly did well in supporting each of characters story arc. Lucy played Summer Purnell gave the audience of live action adaptation of life in the Vault, and her quest is what kept the audience watching. Portrayed as being a truly good person being raised up in the vault a contrary to the Ghoul, who constantly tries to break Lucy golden values. The plot twist ending to her story is what sold it as a Fallout story with hints of more to come for her character. Which I’d be looking forward to in season 2.

Whereas Maximus played by Aaron Clifton Moten, a character who was born on the surface after the war, searching for his purpose in life as member of the Brotherhood of Steel. But his character was mostly used to connect the B.o.S and showcase the power armor. But ultimately ended up as support character for Lucy when he abandons the armor. While Maximus did ultimately find his purpose by the end of the Season. I just hope he doesn’t turn out like Finn from Star Wars, a character with potential, turned useless in the presences of a female lead protagonist. As he searches the Wasteland for Lucy in the next season of Fallout. Evidently, it does feel like they are saving a lot of his potential for season 2 to build on upon. As of writing this review, Amazon did just announce they are renewing the show for season 2 Cheers!!

Overall, the Fallout TV series is a perfect example of video game live action adaption done perfectly, with a bit of originality while also staying faithful to the source material with little to no deviation, but plenty of meaningful plot twists to keep the audience engaged and entertained. With out any major flaws I can think of from a gamer and a TV show viewer perspective. I can once again, safely call this a perfect video game live action adaption done correctly, and one that is enjoyable for all fans alike.

THE VERDICT
